Another great place to go for a family walk when the weather is hot, Symonds Yat is a beautiful area to visit for the day. We decided to park down on the riverside at the Wyedean Canoe & Adventure Centre, Symonds Yat East and then follow the shady woodland trail along the river to Biblins Bridge. Along the way there are plenty of opportunities to dip your feet in the water and let the dog have a swim. There’s also a rope swing. The rapids course is also fun to watch as kayakers try to get through without capsizing. Usually we head over the bridge and then back along the other side of the river where you can take the hand-pulled ferry back across the river but due to COVID it isn’t operating at the moment so we just came back the same way.

We didn’t do it this time as it was so hot but it’s a wonderful place to canoe, kayak or paddle board. The boys have tried out the half day canoe trip and loved it. You can always just try out an hour rental to start with. These don’t have to be pre-booked either. Check it out here.
There are several places to grab some lunch if you don’t fancy making a picnic. The Saracen’s Head is always good for a sandwich and they allow dogs outside and in the bar area. They were very dog-friendly, giving Coco a biscuit and a big bowl of icy water.
Next time we’re going to try out the forest trails from Symonds Yat Rock, just a few minutes drive away, which offer spectacular views of the River Wye and if you’re lucky, peregrine falcon sightings. The trails vary from 1-3 miles long so not too far for younger walkers. Find more details here.
