Soudley Ponds in the Forest of Dean is one of our favourite places for a walk and picnic. It’s so unspoilt and hidden away from tourists, I almost don’t want to share it.
With a few last days of summer sun, it was the perfect place to be for some cool, fresh forest air. There is a 1.5 mile circular route around the ponds which is ideal for younger children and the brilliant MoodSwings have put two swings in along the way.

You can also extend the walk. Once you come to the end of the ponds before heading back on the other side, carry on up the hill to a stone wall view point where you’ll have incredible views over the River Severn.

If you fancy a treat afterwards, the Dean Heritage Centre serves up yummy cakes and ice creams with outside tables around the pond. We used to come here a lot when the kids were young. They loved the Gruffulo Trail and play area and also the festive Santa visits.
