Family walks in the Forest of Dean – Mallards Pike

A brilliant start to the new year and just what we needed to blow the cobwebs away after a late night, a beautiful walk in the fresh forest air. Mallards Pike is a gorgeous spot for a picnic with plenty of benches around the lake and a little cafe serving snacks, cakes and hot drinks. The running trails take you into the forest on well maintained and signposted tracks and with 3,5 and 10km routes, there’s something for all ages. We decided to walk the 5km trail. They’re also great for cycling too. With young children, you can just wander around the lakeside path and over the bridge which is very pretty.

Go ape Tree Top Challenge and Forest Segway is also located here if you fancy something more adventurous. This is the adult course but there is a junior course located just up the road at Beechenhurst. In the summer months, it’s a great place to try out canoeing, kayaking and paddle boarding too.
