Top family holidays for spring sun

As soon as Christmas is over, I can’t wait to start planning my next trip and these cold, dark days definitely leave me longing for some warm sunshine. Europe in the spring can be tricky if you want to swim in the sea or lounge by the pool but visiting a city close to the coast is ideal for that much needed warmth alongside plenty of activities and sights for all the family. Here are my favourites so far for a spring family break.

Granada, Nerja and Malaga

Moorish architecture, enchanting cities and year-round sunshine, Andalucía has to be one of my favourite parts of Spain. Granada, Nerja and Malaga make the perfect city and beach break.

Valencia

A beautiful, vibrant old town sitting alongside the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences. Both the Bioparc Zoo and Oceanogràfic aquarium have to be the best of their kind that we have visited in Europe. As the birthplace of paella, take the bus to the beach and enjoy it in one of the lively beachfront restaurants.

Nice and the French Riviera

Crammed with charming towns and sandy beaches, this sparkling coastline is wonderful in the spring and has an excellent rail network making it easy to explore.

Lisbon and Cascais

Ride the famous yellow tram up to São Jorge Castle, eat lots of yummy Pastéis de Natas and enjoy a trip to the zoo and aquarium. For a lazy day on the beach, take the train to nearby Cascais.
